SKYPEAK TREE TOURIST WALK – WORLD FIRST
ALL VISITORS WELCOME FREE ENTRY
Come up Close to a 200 Year Old 6 Storey High River Red Gum Tree
In what is considered to be an Australian and possibly a world first achievement, this tourist walk is encouraged for all nature lovers. With no charge for entry, the 30-45 minute walk around this majestic tree rises from ground level to 6 storeys high through three easy levels of steps and suspended walkways.
The Skypeak Tree is a River Red Gum Tree that has been repurposed all the way from Bendigo, Victoria. With the support of the Victorian State Government body, VicRoads the Skypeak Tree was destined to be mulched as part of a major roads upgrade.
Skypeak undertook a world first engineering, environmental and logistics exercise to reposition the tree across state boundaries to its resting place in the heart of Western Sydney, the Adventure Capital of New South Wales.
As a family-friendly walk, the Skypeak Walk will bring to life the enormity and majesty of these species of trees. Children will be in awe of the beauty and sheer scale of the tree when they are able to feel and touch the tree from 7 storeys high.
In what is a significant environmental benefit of repurposing the tree, the Skypeak Tree Walk will demonstrate to young and old in a real and up close sense the powerful way in which the carbon and pollutants that have been sequestered in the wood of the tree will remain locked up for the life of the re-use of the tree which is estimated to be well in excess of 50 years!
This is in contrast to releasing these pollutants into the environment had the tree been turned into wood chip or burnt. A little secret – the sunsets from the Skypeak Tree walk are amazing from the top – if you’re here at the end of the day, make sure to catch a glimpse of the Blue Mountains as they ignite under a blaze of fiery colours.
Open every day from 9 am until 5 pm.
